5 Drills to Master during Lockdown

Uncategorized Apr 12, 2020

It’s a strange time at the moment

But it could also be a time where you get on top of some physical things that’ll help you massively when we can get back on the park

If you can get on top of these 5 drills you’ll find yourself in a decent place

1- Skipping

Skipping has a multitude of benefits.

What I love about it is that it’s a self limiting exercises, which basically means if you’re not quite on it you get very quick feedback, namely a rope in the back of the head!

Its fantastic for ankle 7 achillies strength, reactive power as well as help teach a good foot strike position

And it will help fast bowler, spinners, batters and keepers, so a great bang for buck exercise

2- Rolling patterns

In the Inner Circle we talk about the importance of rolling patterns a lot

They sound simple but can shed light on some issues which need addressing

As you do them on the floor there is no issue with gravity, but show you if you have any problems with your kinetic chain either from up to down or down to up

3- Hip hinge

The hip hinge is a crucial movement to master

Without it you can run in back issues whichever position you play

For batters especially I’ve seen a lot of lower back injuries from poor position in their batting stance or when they are in the field, most times leading to disc bulges and issues around that

Get the hip hinge right and you can save a lot of pain!

4- Thoracic rotation

You might be bored about us banging on about it but believe me if you haven’t got it then you’re gonna struggle

Lets just talk batting and spinning

If you want to be clearing the ropes but have got little capacity to rotate the thoracic and make hip/shoulder separation its gonna be tough, no matter how strong you are

For spinners the thoracic is massive, as you need it to be working in tandem with the scapula and shoulder to help create the movement you want

5- Hip pre turn

Again lets leave fast bowling here and look at fielding ant batting

Getting pre turn in the field allows that hip shoulder separation again which will give you a lot more power in your throw, and save your shoulder

And batting again getting the hip pre turn right will help send the ball well over cow corner!

If you need help with any of these then you can get it in the Inner Circle
